ACTORS HEADSHOTS
Actor headshots are CRITICAL because they show casting directors what you look like.
Fair or unfair, most actors get hired because of how they look, not just their talents. But a true acting headshot is more than just a nice picture. It’s your introduction to the industry. Before you’ve said a single line, your headshot is doing the talking for you.
Why Do You Need Headshots For Actors
Your headshot is your actor’s business card, your LinkedIn profile. It acts as the first impression, your introduction, a first audition – if you will, it demonstrates your range as an actor (versatility), professionalism & personality. It will no doubt be one of the first things your agent will ask from you and is often the first thing the casting director gets along with your profile, so it’s important you stand out for the right reasons.
You will probably need two styles of headshots, commercial and Theatrical.
Commercial headshots are traditionally more approachable and friendly, they have warm smiles and invite connection and trust with the viewer. You’ll typically see these types of shots in advertising and marketing campaigns. If you’re aiming to showcase your skills in television commercials, online advertisements or newspapers, this is the headshot style for you.
Theatrical, on the other hand, are generally more stoic and edgy; while both styles are approachable (you need people to connect with you) you’ll want to adopt a less smiley façade. These types of shots are more likely to land you a role in a movie, theatre or TV show.
Tips For Headshots For Actors
Over the years, I’ve picked up a few practical tips for headshots for actors that can make your session go far more smoothly.
Bring more outfits than you think you’ll need. The shirt you love might look flat under studio lights, while something you weren’t sure about could end up being perfect. Having options means you’re never stuck.
Think about the roles you actually get called for. If you’re often seen as the “serious type,” make sure you’ve got a polished look in your headshot selection. If you’re usually considered for more whimsical, creative or casual roles, show that side too.
Get some rest and drink plenty of water the night before. It sounds obvious, but tired eyes or dehydrated skin will show up on camera.
And most importantly, trust your photographer. A good photographer won’t just click a button – they’ll guide you, chat with you, and help you relax so the photos feel natural.
My signature style
I like actors to understand that working with professional headshot photographer is a step towards getting that role. More than 7 years in this genre, helps me know what Casting Agents wants, what Directors and Producers are looking for. We work together to achieve goals, share inspiration images and helping in director and lighting our shots.
We come up with shot list, sometimes share mood board and even advice before we start our session. For this kind of genre, I preffer mixture of Traditional Headshots and full shots since most of agents request those portraits from actors. It is good for you to have all these in one package: CLOSE UP, MEDIUM AND FULL SHOTS.
I always suggest you have minimal to no make-up for us to achieve that natural look. Plain, less saturated clothes and fitting outfit are advicable. I will give you direction to how you should pose so that you look believable true to the role. I do very minor editing that doesn’t make you look different. After shooting, I give you time to select photos that you like most for me to work on them and deliver as final Headshot of your choice.
Remember, casting directors make all kinds of judgment calls from your headshot alone, and since they look at SO many each day, they can easily tell if your headshots don’t look high-end or expensive. Just be sure your expressions look natural (don’t pick one where it looks like you’re trying too hard). Until the day comes where your name is widely recognized in the industry, you (and every other actor) NEED a great headshot.

CORPORATE HEADSHOTS
A corporate headshot is a professional portrait specifically designed for business use. Its primary purpose is to convey professionalism, credibility, and approachability.
A great headshot acts as a modern-day digital handshake. Instead of just being a simple picture, it functions as a personal logo that introduces you before you meet someone.
Who are Corporate Headshots for?
Corporate headshots are essential for a wide range of professionals and businesses. This includes executives, employees, consultants, and entrepreneurs across all industries, such as finance, law, technology, marketing, and healthcare. They are crucial for company websites, LinkedIn profiles, internal comms platforms like Slack, annual reports, press releases, business cards, email signatures and pitch decks, ensuring a unified and professional brand image for individuals and the entire organisation.
It depends on your personality, industry and where the photos will be placed!
For more conservative industries like law and finance, we recommend the standard suit-and-tie, or female equivalent.
Otherwise, the best rule-of-thumb is to take a look around LinkedIn to see how peers and senior executives in your industry are dressed. Make sure to pay closer attention to people who are successful vs whomever is in your immediate network.
Remember, dress for the job you want, not the job you have. If you’re still not sure, then ask us! We’re always happy to provide guidance.
